Up Apr 2010 pt2

April 3rd - 8th

Since I cant take the car in for another few weeks I am working on some little details.  Decided to try to get all the dash reinforcements installed and realized I needed to transplant the brackets from my old window frame.  I also found that I has a couple of rivets missing from the rear seat panel to console.  The headlight switch cover pedal was missing a rivet.  My pedal rubber is pretty crappy too. The fun and expense never ends.

Removing the brackets was kind of laborious.  I cut the sections out of the old frame, then ground the medal down on the back side of the spot welds and then used an air chisel to knock them off.  Had to do quite a bit of straightening with them in the vice.

I didn't like all the surface rust under the dash and decided to pull the pedal assembly out and give it a coat of self etching primer to stop the decay.  I made sure to test both the clutch and brake switches as well as they are hell to get to once the car is together.

Once the pedals were painted black and everything else was properly primed I found some axle grease and started reassembling everything.  I will need to do some tweaking once everything is mounted but I think I have the pedal depth pretty close right now.  I am waiting on new firewall sound deadener and insulation before reinstalling the pedal assembly.

I was cleaning up the shop and found the cubby box but couldn't find the light bezel for the box and I spent over an hour looking before I finally found it in a plastic bag full of trash.  I went ahead and got it installed so i wouldn't play this game again.  I also got in some seat belt guides of a 77 and they will work just fine.  3 bolt seat belt guides for a late 69 are ridiculously overpriced.  I will try to find a set for the shelf...  but will use these.
