Up Feb 2010 pt 2

I went out to my shop after a hard rain to do some painting and I found some leaks in the paint booth among other places.  While having such a huge shop is cool in many ways.  Cleaning out the gutters and looking for leaky roof screws sucks.  I got my middle daughter to spread tar while I cleaned the ecosystem out of both 100ft long gutters.

Finally got to do some car work.  I did a little painting and priming.  After that I took the role of staple wire and made staples for the fender seals and secured the seals to the inner fenders.

I finished cleaning up the fender splash guards and then I did a little more work on getting the inner fenders painted flat black and once I was finished I decided to clean up the hardware from the drivers side fender.  This is when I realized I might have a little problem.  The old  drivers side fender well has a notch and the replacement does not.  Hmmm, I'm going to have to see if this will present a problem.

I spent about 4 hours in the shop today working on the car.  First I attached my new drivers side plenum extension.  I used some fiberglass resin and locked it in place with some small rivets. Next I worked on the fender skirts.  I patched the push pin holes for the front splash guards as they are supposed to be attached with staples and then I worked on getting the drivers side inner fender support to fit in this wheel well that doesn't quite match.  At the end of the day I sanded down the top pad as it had been patched before and rebuilt it and then drilled new holes.  Now everything fits.  I had a little panic attack in the middle of this and decided I needed to put the hood on and check clearances and everything was fine.

While messing with the fender skirts I also was doing a little part painting as well.  Next I decided to tackle the passenger side plenum extension.

Next I looked at the passenger side batwing.  I have had nothing but trouble trying to get it to match the layout of the drivers side.  Then I remembered the drivers side wasn't actually cinched up well so I removed the old screws and added a new one.  This made it look like the passenger side once it got mounted as well. After getting everything mounted I went back and cleaned it up with an angle grinder with a sanding disk on it.  While looking at the batwing I realized a little plastic block was missing from my windshield frame so I stole it off my old nasty frame.  Lastly I dropped the drivers side hood hinge and hood support into the degreasing tank for the night.
