First I'll start off with some background to explain why I'm doing this. When I bought the car I knew it needed some work, this was after all supposed to be a project car, so I was planning on doing this eventually anyway. The time table got moved up when my newly rebuilt engine began chewing up my transmission. While the original close-range Muncie M-21 may be great for a collector it Isn't very practical for driving. I decided to get an overdrive transmission. I searched long and hard and have documented this search here.
When I finally decided on the T-56 six speed I knew I would have to move the transmission mount back a few inches. I decided to put the car up on a rack and take a look at how much work I was in for. Good thing I did. I found a large section of my frame under the drivers door was completely rusted out. In addition to the drivers side rocker channel. This would make it nearly impossible to mount a new cross member not to mention being an accident waiting to happen.
When you look around in the links above you will probably think I am absolutely nuts.
