August 14th & 15th 2004
Take a look at this beautiful frame work. This piece is so bad that when I put the car up on stands the drivers door gap widened from 1/4" to 3/4" and the door wont shut now.. That's how weak the frame on this side is.
So I began the process of getting the body ready to pull the evening of the 14th of July 2004. I had to take it to speed shop the next morning to put on my roller rockers so I didn't go too far with it. Also since I have a complete carpet set I went ahead and gutted a little more of the interior. I figure the less weight the better anyway.
Some interior pictures. Some from the 14th, some from 15th. Also notice my blue seats that don't match the original saddle interior or the current dyed black. Notice also the wonderful carpet. The previous owner just covered one layer of bad carpet with another. I got to all of the body mounts and sprayed PB Blaster on them. I didn't think however to spray the nut on the inside of the #4 mounts these are hard to get to and it wind up causing me a little trouble later.
The 15th I went ahead and started tearing it apart, I removed all the fuel, vacuum, and water hoses. Pulled the radiator etc. I also began taking out body mount bolts. The craftsman bolt extractor kit in the picture below worked wonders. See the check list below for a full account.
The driver side #2 mount is rusted so bad that there isn't any head left to grab. Im either going to have to grind it off or cut it with a torch. The passenger #2 & #3 came out easily. The drivers #3 took some convincing but finally came out. Both #4's were a little more complicated though. These bolts come up into the body in a little well behind the deck lid springs. There are square nuts attached to some kind of cage to hold them still. I should have soaked these thoroughly but didn't know I could get to them. When I began loosening the bolts the nuts spun so I had to cut the bolts out with a reciprocating saw. Problem solved for now. I hope it didn't cause any damage to the fiberglass.
